If you frequent Spfldbloggers, and you should, then you already know about the Lebowski Experience that’s set to go down on January 19. If you don’t know about it, you will within the next couple of paragraphs.

Aimee Mann was unfairly snubbed by Oscar for her role as Nihilist Woman in the Big Lebowski.
To celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the Coen brother’s tour de force, the Big Lebowski, a group of citizens has organized an event to honor the Dude. It starts at 2:00 PM at Strike ‘n Spare West. The gala will feature a showing of the film in the bar area and will be followed by some spirited rounds of bowling. There will also be a costume contest, trivia, and drink specials. You’ll get a free T-shirt with your $18.69 entry fee, but you need to register at thelebowskiexperience.com.
This is one of those events that sounds fun, but that in the past I’d usually find an excuse not to attend so I could regret it later. But this is really a once in a lifetime opportunity. I believe the canon also states that it is a Movie Geeks Day of Obligation so I have to attend or risk excommunication.
As of last week, around 40 people had signed up and organizers are hoping for around 75 attendees. Now that I’ve given the event my official endorsement and thrown the weight of the BFS media empire behind it, that number is expected to rise as high as 76, or 77 if my wife decides to go.
The Anonymous Communists plan on being there… late. Gotta work Saturday day. Won’t get there until about 6 at the earliest.
Unfortunately, I don’t have the time nor the know-how to make the costume I want.

You should be able to put together a Jesus Quintana-style jumpsuit without too much difficulty.

I was thinking something more offbeat: Dead Donny, i.e., a Folgers can.

OOOOH Man I am angry I will be missing this. Lebowski is by far my favorite movie, even in German.
I went to the NYC Lebowskifest in 06 and it was awesome. Bowling, White Russians, people walking around dressed as Creedence Tapes and Jeff “The Dude” Dowd walking around partying with everyone. So, so, so awesome.
I might have to work out a way to get a t-shirt even if I’m not there. Damn, wish it was ten days earlier. But you know, sometimes you eat the bar and sometimes the bar, well, it eats you.

Dave: Is that some kind of Eastern thing?

Russ, I’ve got shades I used for a previous Walter costume that were passable. If you want them, let me know.

Thanks Nick… I ordered a pair earlier today, along with a sweet set of custom dog tags. I appreciate the offer though!

No problem. Just remember: If you need a toe, you know by what time it can be delivered this afternoon … with nail polish.

Dan you are awesome man! That is freakin HUGE of you. I really cant thank you enough. How was it? The pictures on the site look like it was a blast with a much bigger turnout than I wouldve expected. I dunno, I just wasnt sure how many Springfieldians would turn out in costume but damn that place was full of brilliant costumes. I am really bummed I missed it. While you guys were rolling and drinking that good saspirilla I was making multiple trips to an inept US Post Office in the freezing cold. I tell you I did not watch my friends die face down in the mud to have some grouchy government employee lose my package.
When that shirt comes in let me know but it’ll probably be most convenient for you to just give it to the old man. Which works out pretty well for me cause that means he can pay you the $18.69 and wait for reimbursment (which given the continued absence of this semester’s loan check could be a while.)
Thanks again man, when I get back in town (whenever that is, I owe you a beer and a face to face meeting.)
