Spfldbloggers swarm Slider Stadium (hyperbolic headline)

The first ever Spfldbloggers night at Slider Stadium was a rousing somewhat success. There was a conspicuous absence of bloggers, but those that showed presented themselves well.

I got to sit and talk with Nick, Johann (thanks for the beer) and Shoo for a couple of innings before my children – suffering from fatigue after a day at the water park, coupled with intense boredom – risked getting us all removed from the premises. Still it was fun while it lasted.

Uber-commentors Nancy and Rock were there with their family, but they choose to separate themselves from the common blogger and sit in the elite seats behind home plate.

I don’t know why the turnout of bloggers was so low; the weather was beautiful. I’m sure if Springfield had a professional soccer team, we would have gotten a much better response.

  1. Us? Elitist??? Never! It was simply a requirement of the Commenters Protection Program that Rock and I had to enter after a few particularly heated exchanges here at BFS that banished us into the shaded area where the seats had backs and armrests.

I eventually braved the elements en route to the restrooms with my daughter and met Johann, Nick, and Mrs. Shoo for the first time and reminded Shoo of who I was in relation to you, Dan.

It was an exciting game and we moved to even better seats for the extra innings. I’ve got some issues with the choice of music between innings, but other than that, a great time.

  2. The Uber-commentors chose to sit in seats in the shade with backs . . . I don’t know if sitting in the bleachers with the sun setting in your eyes was some sort of blogger ploy to ensure solitariness, or an intelligence sorting mechanism, but I stand firm behind our decision. And our spendthrift seats actually cost the same as all the other plebeian $4 seats . . . The game was very enjoyable – thanks goes to Uber-Nancy for pushing hard to make the night a reality for the 7 of us. And since we had such comfortable seats, we were able to stay for all 11 innings and witness the walk-off error that won it for our intrepid terrapins the 11th (and the kiddies all got to run the bases afterwards too, what fun!). Go Sliders!

  3. Speaking of intelligence sorting mechanisms, did you really pay $4 per seat when tickets could be had for free by visiting a local County Market store?

Anyway, I applaud you for sticking it out for all 11 innings. I wasn’t crazy about the music either, but I was impressed with the lengths to which they went to keep things lively.

  6. I would have loved to be at the game yesterday, but, alas, things did come up. We have been painting some rooms in the house and found ourselves a few hours from finished in the bedroom. I opted to stay and get the job done.

    Sorry fellow bloggers and comment-providers.

  8. I might prefer soccer but if I ever make it home I’d be down for Spfldbloggers II: Electric Boogaloo. I havent been to a game since it was still the Cardinals (or maybe the Sultans) but I have fond memories of summer nights in the bleachers betting nickels with my dad over whether or not the batter would get to base.

  12. If they could get Moon Unit to sing the national anthem at a Sliders’ game, I think we’d get a better showing of bloggers. We like our nostalgic kitsch.

  13. Atta boy (girl?) whitcharoo – give ‘em hell. We don’t need their bleeding-heart-liberal ulta-left leaning Sliders commentary around here. I mean yeah it seemed like they just commented on being at the game, but we know what they really meant, right?. Even though they said nothing of the sort, I bet they think the government should take more of our HARD EARNED tax dollars and subsidize the cost of Slider games for the less fortunate and those with more than 4 kids. I wish they’d just shut up already.

  14. I guess the only thing left to discuss is whether Laura’s post was the post of the year or all time . . . ! Discuss . . .

  15. Is Witcharoo a Quincy College alum and there is lots of fun ribbing going on? Otherwise us non-bloggers/commentators are a tad bit confused.

  16. As far as I know, Witcharoo is new to these parts, at least as far as commenting is concerned. I don’t know if his/her comment was a good natured rib, or if it was meant to sting.

Rock and Nancy aren’t QU people, in fact, they aren’t really even liberals. Remember how I said that they insisted on sitting in the upper class section of the stadium. And how they refused to accept free tickets from County Market because they don’t believe in welfare. They also demanded that their beer be served in non-biodegradable Styrofoam and they left their Hummer running in the parking lot so it would cool when they got in after the game. Oh yeah, they also think the New Yorker cover is straight journalism rather than political satire.
