Spice Boxing

I gave up blatant self-promotion for Lent, but I’ll lapse just long enough to provide a peak at today’s feature article in Heartland magazine on the Spice Box restaurant.

Picture a laboratory on a university campus. What probably comes to mind are stainless-steel work surfaces covered with beakers and Bunsen burners. Students in white lab coats and safety glasses are mixing chemicals in precise proportions. Whatever it is they’re cooking up, you probably wouldn’t want to eat it.

At the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, there’s one laboratory that will defy those expectations. Reservations are required, the service is impeccable and you’d do well to arrive hungry.

Read the rest of it here, why don’t ya?

  1. Nice article, Dan. Did you get to eat?

  2. Emily reserved a table for me, but I didn’t want it to be like a restaurant review so I just roamed around talking to people and observing. I did have a crab cake in the kitchen and it was quite tasty.
