People, please, don’t you get it? The Fresh Prince is guilty of poor grammar and lazy syntax. His rhyme should read:
Yes, it’s true, I am wearing athletic shoes, but it would behoove me to purchase a more fashionable pair that might win for me the approval of the opposite sex.
Because, you see, girls are more likely to congregate at the basketball court, where I can be seen wearing said shoes, during the summer months when the weather is less inclement. And I, of course, greatly desire the companionship of the fairer sex.
Do you see how much clearer his meaning is when properly expressed? Our Mr. Smith would do well to run his “raps” by an English teacher before recording them and perhaps he can avoid subjecting himself to public ridicule.
